HWK4.5

INCREASED GOVERNMENT DEFECIT DID NOT FIT REAGAN’S “BRAND”, BUT THE BLOCK GRANT POLICY DID.

Reagan promised to lower government spending and lower taxes, but he increased military spending by 85%. With lowered taxes and increased military spending, the US’s income is too meager for its spending. This is why national debt tripled from $75 billion to $221 billion.

The Block Grant Policy fitted Reagan’s conservative “brand”. In his inaugural speech, Reagan said he will “curb the size and the influence of the Federal establishment and demand recognition… to the state.” The Block Grant Policy cut the power of the federal government and gave the states more power to control their own precinct. The state is able to do things without worrying whether or not the federal government will take part in it.

"Who is to blame for America's trend toward high divorce rates, starting in the 1970s?"

FEMALE FEMINISTS ARE TO BE BLAMED FOR THE HIGH DIVORCE RATES IN THE 1970s.

Female feminists' actions resulted in an increase of supporters for no fualt divorce policy. People like Betty Friedan influenced the female population and got them to want reform. Her problem that had no name was the thing that every wife have in common.

Female feminists, with their ferocious battle, pushed no fault divorce to be enact. No fault divorce allowed men to divorce their spouses without the fear for any consequences. From 1975 to 1983, divorced female increased to 28%.

As female feminists seek for equality for women, they did not want to be dependent on men anymore. Women became seeking for freedom and independence. With this in mind, husbands and wifes got divorced and women got jobs and made money on their own.

In the TV series,  All in the Family, it is evident newer generation women are getting education and having a new mind towards becoming independent. The daughter getting a job shows that women are progressing towards becoming independent and not relying on their husbands.

"Who is to blame for America's trend toward high divorce rates, starting in the 1970s?"

Feminism is what caused the the high divorce rates in the US in the 1970s
Due to proactive feminist civil right movement groups, people who supported no fault divorce policy increased in numbers. People like Betty Friedan influenced the female population and got them to want reform. Her problem that had no name was the thing that every wife have in common.

Woman seeking independence is to be blamed

The wife's inability to please the husband is another factor. While wives are pursuing their "dream", the husbands are all looking at younger fresh meat. The wives don't even pay attention to what their husbands are doing and as things progress on, a divorce becomes inevitable.

Question: How important was airpower in US fight v. Japanese, '41-42 (Battle of Midway)

Torpedo planes may not have enough fuel to safely fly back to the carrier. Hornet fighters would have to ditch their planes in mid air. Admiral Fletcher was then forced to launch his planes much later than the designated time.

When the last bombers took off, others have already finished with their primary targets and were working on their secondary targets. In an interview with Navy Commander M.A. Merril, he recalls the primary target including a ship called Soryu was already on fire by the time he got in formation.

“Non-violent resistance to injustice was a good strategy for southern civil rights leaders.”

in the 1960s, there was a  non-violent sit-in in Nashville. The minority race would sit-in an all white restaurant and demand to be served. Tens of thousands of students did these sit-ins. The owners wouldn't serve them food. Owners had no choice but to change the rules and serve them.

Freedom Summer was an organization that failed because it was non-violent. Their non-violent nature allowed them to be vulnerable to attack. They tried to help African Americans participate in the government, but in return, lots were killed.
